A 33-year-old man, Monsuru Musa, was apprehended after being caught impersonating his father, Musa Mohammed, during a official Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Civil Service Commission promotion test.
The father, an employee of the FCT Fire Service, reportedly directed his son to sit for the assessment on his behalf at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) venue.
How the Fraud Was Uncovered
The breach was detected by security personnel stationed at the examination center following directives from FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to monitor the process closely.
Upon being detained, Monsuru claimed he stepped in because his father was indisposed. However, officials quickly identified inconsistencies during initial questioning regarding the father’s identity and service record:
Age Contradictions: When asked about his father’s age, Monsuru stated the elder Musa was between 67 and 68 years old. In contrast, the father later claimed he would only be turning 60 by February 2027.
Educational Timeline: Spokesperson Lere Olayinka noted that the father claimed to have finished primary school in 1977 and completed secondary education in 1982—dates that raised immediate suspicion given his claimed birth year.
Handover to Law Enforcement
Following preliminary interrogations by officers from the Department of State Services (DSS), both father and son were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force for comprehensive investigation and potential prosecution.
