Political economist and chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Pat Utomi, has given an insight into the economic agenda of Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
According to Utomi, the party’s economic roadmap is focused on reviving the value of the naira and drastically reducing the cost of living for ordinary Nigerians.
Speaking on the proposed plan, Utomi disclosed that if Peter Obi emerges as president in 2027 under the NDC platform, the administration would work towards strengthening the naira to exchange at around ₦500 to a dollar.
He further stated that the economic programme would target a significant drop in the prices of essential food items. Utomi projected that under the plan, staple commodities such as bread could sell for as low as ₦800, while a bag of rice could go for about ₦27,500.
The professor explained that the projections are part of a broader economic strategy aimed at boosting local production, cutting inflation, and making basic necessities more affordable for Nigerians.
He noted that the NDC’s focus is to rebuild the economy from the ground up, with policies that will prioritize productivity and reduce over-dependence on imports.
As of the time of this report, Peter Obi is yet to personally release a detailed breakdown of the economic blueprint.
What do you think about this projection? Can bread really sell for ₦800 and dollar for ₦500 in 2027?
