Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has warned state authorities against any attempt to dethrone the Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Igboho gave the warning in a statement where he spoke strongly in defence of the revered Ibadan traditional institution.
According to him, any governor who plots to remove the Olubadan will face serious resistance from Yoruba sons and daughters.
He stressed that such an action would trigger massive unrest that could force the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency in Oyo State.
In his words: “If any governor makes a move to dethrone the Olubadan, we will shut down everywhere. That same day, a state of emergency will have to be declared in Oyo State.”
The activist noted that the Olubadan stool is not just a traditional title but a symbol of Yoruba history and pride that must be protected from political interference.
His comment comes amid renewed conversations about the sanctity of traditional institutions and the limits of executive power over royal stools in the South-West.
As of press time, there has been no official response from the Oyo State Government regarding Igboho’s statement.
