A dispute between a property owner and a tenant recently turned physical after the landlord attempted to deliver a notice regarding a rent hike.
The incident unfolded when the landlord decided to inform his tenants of an upcoming increase in their annual rent. Before he could finish handing out the notices, one frustrated tenant responded by punching the landlord directly in the eye.
The Landlord’s Justification
While reporting the assault to the police, the landlord explained his rationale for raising the rent every single year. He claimed that the rising cost of cement and other essential building materials in the market justified the yearly price adjustments on his property.
“I was just trying to deliver the new rent increase notice to every tenant, and out of nowhere, one of them punched me in the eye,” the landlord recounted to the responding officers.
