A Nigerian woman has stirred reactions online after sharing how she ended up marrying a man her close friend once dated and rejected.
According to her, back in 2023, her friend was in a relationship with a man in his early 40s. The friend often complained that she was only with him for the benefits, claiming she didn’t like his dress sense or the way he spoke. She allegedly said she couldn’t introduce him as her husband because he was an Igbo man who spoke English with a strong Igbo accent.
At that time, they were living together, so she often saw the man whenever he visited. She said it was obvious he was deeply in love with her friend, but her friend wasn’t serious about him. Eventually, the relationship ended and he stopped coming around.
Six months later, she said she ran into the same man at a mall. They exchanged contacts and started chatting on WhatsApp, where she discovered he was actually funny, kind and generous. She later found out he was a successful and wealthy businessman who owned a house and several cars — something her friend never knew while they were dating.
Their friendship grew, they started dating, and months later they got married. She admitted she didn’t inform her friend about the relationship at first because she was unsure how she would react. It was only after their introduction ceremony that she told her friend about the marriage.
Since then, she claims her friend has been calling her names, including a gold digger, and accusing her of stealing her destiny. She also alleged that her friend now calls her husband to feed him false information about her past, including claims that she used to do hookups.
“I don’t understand how I stole her life when she rejected him herself. She had every chance to be with him,” the woman lamented.
She added that she has begged her friend and even asked other people to intervene, but the calls to her husband have continued, and she fears it is now threatening her marriage.
The story has since generated mixed reactions online, with many debating whether she betrayed her friend or simply took an opportunity her friend threw away.
