A dramatic sequence of events unfolded in Lagos yesterday after a well-dressed man allegedly stole a high-end vehicle from a dealership and went on a destructive spree across several neighborhoods before being apprehended.
According to reports, the suspect entered a motor dealership in the Victoria Garden City (VGC) area posing as a prospective buyer interested in a Toyota Tundra truck. Upon receiving the keys for a test drive, he abruptly locked the vehicle from the inside and sped off.
The getaway quickly turned chaotic as the driver crashed through security barriers:
VGC Security Breach: The suspect allegedly forced his way out of the estate without authorization, smashing security hardware and knocking down a security guard on duty.
Multi-Vehicle Collisions: Heading toward Chevron Alternative Road, the driver crashed into several moving and parked cars, causing significant traffic disruption.
Pedestrian Injuries: Reports indicate that multiple individuals were hit during the escape attempt, including at least four dispatch riders and several passersby.
The high-speed flight came to an end when heavy traffic near the Agungi axis slowed the vehicle down, forcing the driver to divert toward Ajiran. Unable to maneuver further, the suspect abandoned the truck and attempted to flee on foot before being captured inside a nearby drainage canal by local authorities and residents.
