A Nigerian man has listed five possible challenges citizens could face if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu wins a second term in 2027, saying the issues will affect everyone regardless of political party, whether APC, Accord Party or others.
According to him, these are the five problems:
1. Removal of electricity subsidy: He alleged that if Tinubu is re-elected, electricity subsidy could be removed by January. He claimed that by February, the effect would be felt, as N20,000 worth of electricity may not buy up to 20 units.
2. Introduction of 5% fuel tax: He claimed that an extra 5% tax will be charged on fuel at filling stations. For example, a person buying N100,000 worth of fuel would pay an additional N5,000 as tax. He alleged the plan has already been concluded but will only be implemented after re-election.
3. New tax reforms: He warned that the proposed tax reforms could affect workers and savers. He cited an example that someone with N2.2 million in savings might be asked to pay N300,000 as tax, which is about 13.6% of the savings.
4. Green charges on imported vehicles: He claimed that vehicles imported into the country would attract extra charges depending on their engine capacity and size.
5. Possible hike in petrol price: He warned that petrol price could rise to as high as N2,000 per litre, which according to him would make life harder and increase the cost of living for many Nigerians.
He concluded that life could become more difficult for Nigerians if these measures are implemented.
